HELP!
I want to go to church but ...
I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO

Many people have never been to church, or, have not been to church in a long time. Naturally, the idea can be a bit intimidating and no one wants to look foolish. So, this page is designed so that you have a bit of information about what goes on, so that you feel more comfortable.

You do NOT have to DO anything special in order to come to church (dress a certain way, act a certain way, etc). This is just general information; it is not a list of rules or a "dress code."

WHAT TO WEAR:

Liberty Baptist Church - Prescott, ArizonaAs the saying goes, "wear your Sunday best."

After all, you are going to church to worship God, so you want to look your best. God knows your heart as well as your wardrobe - and that is all that matters. When picking out what to wear, be sure that whatever it is, is decent and your best.

If you want to just blend in with the crowd, then, typically the women wear dresses and the men, shirt and tie. Some people do not have clothes like that so, it is important to remember that if all you have are jeans in your closet, then wear your best jeans.

Remember though, you are not going to church to "be seen" or to impress anyone, you are going to worship the LORD, so make sure that your clothing pleases Him. Not the person next to you.

WHAT TO DO:

Sunday School starts at 9:45 and Worship Service at 10:45. Both services start right on time, so if you don't want to make a scene, be sure you are there and seated before the service starts. Typically you should try to arrive about 10 minutes early.

As soon as you walk inside the door of the main Auditorium, more than likely someone will come up to you even before you get seated, and try to make you feel as comfortable as possible. Remember - at one time, we were all EXACTLY LIKE YOU are now. A bit nervous, apprehensive and well ... we didn't know what to do either. So, we try to make sure you don't feel awkward.

Take a seat anywhere you'd like in the pews. There is no assigned seating so anywhere you choose is fine. On the back of the pew you will see a few items. One of which should be a Visitor's card. Please take one and fill it out. Also you will see something called a Hymnal. When we start singing you will want to use this book. It should look something like the one depicted in this photo.

When the service begins, we usually sing songs to our LORD. After all, it is His day. There will be a few songs which we will sing out of the Hymnals. In the middle of the song service, we will take up an offering. Typically a visitor does not give a tithe or offering. When the basket is handed to you, pass it to the person on the other side of you. As you pass the basket, drop the Visitor's card in the basket.

Then, right after the songs, we will have a scripture reading. What that means is the entire church will rise to their feet and we will turn to a passage in the Bible (King James Version). We will either read it outloud or it will be read outloud to us and we will just follow along.

You will always be instructed as to what to do from whomever is at the pulpit. Just listen and watch the rest of us.

Then, when the songs, offering and Bible reading are overwith, the sermon will begin.

At the end of the sermon, we will sing another song. This is what is called a song of invitation. If something in the sermon makes you feel uneasy or if you feel like you want to pray, then this is your opportunity to come to the front and speak with the Pastor. He will explain this from the pulpit. If you aren't sure what to do or are just too scared, that's alright - you can always walk up to him after the service is over to speak to him.

After the song of invitation, we are dismissed to go home.

See ... its not complicated and if you just follow what everyone else is doing, you'll be fine. Nowhere and at no time will anyone embarrass you, single you out, make you feel bad, uncomfortable or look at you like you're an awful person. That isn't what we do.

WHAT TO BRING:

Yourself. And a friend, too, if you'd like. Also, if you have one, bring your Bible.

King James Version BibleIf you do not own a Bible and want to buy one, then we recommend the King James Version of the Bible. This is sometimes referred to as the KJV or KJB. There are many "new" versions of the Bible - even something called a New King James Version. Some people claim that these revised versions of the Bible are just as good as the Original King James Version of the Bible, and will even go so far as to claim they are more accurate and easier to understand, as well. Many "Christian" bookstores will also try to sell you other versions, such as the NIV, NASB, TNIV, NKJV, etc. At Liberty Baptist Church we do not use anything but the original King James Version of the Bible as we believe that the King James Version is the Holy and Inspired, Word of God. The other versions have changed what God wrote, removed some of the verses, changed the meaning and have diluted His message.

God knew that people would try to change His Holy Word, so he put this very stern warning in the Bible. Its in the last book of the Bible in the last Chapter. (Revelation 22:18 and 19):

18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

WHEN CAN I GET SAVED?

Liberty Baptist ChurchWe believe that the LORD calls people to salvation through his Word. If, while you are listening to the sermon and during the invitation song, you feel a tug on your heart, pay attention. That is the Holy Spirit talking to you. During the song of invitation, the Pastor will ask if anyone would like to come down to the front where he is standing. If you feel that tug on your heart, simply step out into the aisle and walk down to the front. Every one of us, who is a born-again Christian, has already done this, so do not feel embarrassed or awkward. Besides, it isn't about us - its about YOU and Jesus. Of course, at the same time satan will be telling you how embarrassed you'll be and that everyone will think less of you. Satan doesn't want you to get saved and he'll do whatever it takes to keep you from walking down there.

The choice is yours.

When you come down to the front, we will have someone show you how to get saved. If you are a woman, we will have a woman show you how to get saved. If you are a man, we will have a man show you.

Of course, you do not have to wait until Sunday. You can always get saved right now. At this very moment, while you are sitting here in front of your computer. Click HERE to go to a page which will how you how to get saved. Then, be sure to contact the Pastor to let him know, so that we can help you in your next steps as a Child of the King.

If you still have questions or would perhaps like to know more, feel free to write to the Pastor by using our Contact Us page in the navigation on the left.
